“I have always believed in the power of community to lift people up and transform society. It’s what’s driven me since I was a young kid growing up in London West and it’s what motivates me today.”
Shawna is a long-time human rights activist, community organizer and London West resident. Growing up in a working-class family, she saw how neighbours could pull together to care for one another. She believes in the power of people, communities and politics to create a more equitable, sustainable and prosperous Canada for all of us.
She has passionately and fearlessly pushed for change in London, speaking out and mobilizing others. She is a member and past Chair of the City of London’s Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Oppression Advisory Committee; the president of the Urban League; an electoral reform advocate, a faculty member in Social Justice and Peace Studies at King’s University College, and the founder of Women & Politics.
Shawna knows there is an urgent need to address issues facing London West residents and people across Canada. Issues such as the lack of affordable housing, climate change, growing income inequality, rising health-care costs, job losses and more. As a New Democrat, Shawna is committed to working hard for the residents of London West.
