Climate change is real. We’re already feeling it locally, with extremes of temperature, and globally, with tornados and hurricanes and other destructive extreme weather events.
Our situation is urgent. Scientists tell us that we have less than 12 years to address climate change in a meaningful way. We need to work together to make this a priority – we owe it to our children and to the generations to come.
We must start now and we must commit to making important changes. We cannot address climate change with wholly inadequate emission targets like the ones set by the Conservatives and kept by the Liberals. We have a responsibility to the people of this country and to people around the world to live up to Canada’s commitments under the Paris Agreement and to find a pathway to renewable energy.
As a New Democrat, as a Canadian, and as a global citizen I will fight for the NDP’s commitment to the environment and addressing climate change in a meaningful way.
